Just as a follow-up to Amanda's long ago post about our move to New Orleans. We finally got out of the parking lot in Marshall, TX and made it to Baton Rouge, LA where we decided to spend the night before heading to New Orleans the next morning.
When we awoke the next morning...OUR TIRE AND RIM HAD BEEN STOLEN OFF THE CAR (the thiefs did leave the car jacked up though, which was nice, I guess). After several hours of getting help from AAA and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff, we were on the road to New Orleans, where it decided to rain as we unloaded. After unloading, we realized that we were missing several important items (such as my computer and textbooks), but these were finally recovered after we realized a friend was trying to help and put them in his car when it started raining during the unloading process.
Our dryer cord didn't match the outlet plug, so a neighbor offered to help us fix the problem but the end result of that experience was that we almost burned down the apartment and were threatened with a huge fine during our first few hours on campus. Yikes- plenty of spiritual warfare at this point to make us feel certain that we were definitely in the right place.
The last three months have been an incredible testimony to God's faithfulness as we have made new friends, been re-acquainted with old friends and our church family at Edgewater Baptist Church, evacuated for Hurricane Gustav, endured another close call with Hurricane Ike, seen God provide a job at the New Testament Textual Center, and started the entrance process for the PhD program.
My PhD Entrance Interview is October 17th and our baby boy is due December 6th, so we're getting geared up for an exciting end to the year. We will keep you updated.
